Located just off I-10 in Grosse Tete, Louisiana, Tiger Truck Stop is more than a place to fuel up and get back on the road—it is a living tribute to the dedication, vision, and legacy of the late Johnny Ewing. Along with his wife Dana, James Jarreau, and Beth Jarreau, Johnny helped transform this iconic location into a modern 18,000-square-foot travel center where truck drivers, families, locals, and travelers can take a break, grab a great meal, and experience true Southern hospitality.
While Tiger Truck Stop has a long and unique history—originally founded by Michael Sandlin, who famously kept live animals on-site like the well-known tiger, Tony—the location has since evolved into a modern, welcoming travel stop. Though there are no live animals on-site today, the spirit of Tiger Truck Stop lives on through the incredible legacy left behind by Johnny Ewing.
With over 40 years of experience in managing truck stops and construction businesses, Johnny’s expertise and hard work were instrumental in rebuilding and defining the modern Tiger Truck Stop.
“Johnny is just the smartest guy I know,” shared his partner James Jarreau, who brings over 20 years of convenience industry experience to the team. “My goal was always to try and be smarter than him, but I found myself falling short each time. Tiger Truck Stop is what it is today because of Johnny Ewing. I can never thank him and his wife Dana enough. It has been one amazing ride.”
Today, the dedicated team at Tiger Truck Stop—including long-time staff members who have been with the stop for over 30 years—honors Johnny’s legacy every day. We continue his vision for the future by offering clean facilities, expanded services, ample parking, and the genuine, warm Southern hospitality that Johnny Ewing worked so hard to build.
